Information You Provide
Search Entries
When a name, city, county, or other search term is entered into a third-party search box, that query is sent to the provider that operates the tool. Polk County Inmate Population does not keep a separate local log of those search terms. The provider's own privacy policy and terms govern how it handles the query and any result.
Messages
If a visitor emails us or sends a contact message, we use the message content and reply information to respond. We do not sell those messages. They may be disclosed if needed to comply with a subpoena, court order, lawful investigation, or similar legal duty.
Technical Data Collected
Like most websites, this site may receive standard technical information when a page loads. That data helps maintain the site, diagnose errors, measure use, and protect basic security.
- IP address and approximate network location.
- Browser name, browser version, and language settings.
- Device type, screen information, and operating system.

- Referring page or search engine, when provided.

How Data Is Used
Collected information is used for ordinary site operations and visitor support. It is not used to create an official Polk County record, and it does not change any record held under Iowa Code chapter 22 or any other public-records law.

Outside Websites
The site links to the Polk County Inmates portal, sheriff pages, Iowa Courts Online, the Iowa DOC offender search, ICE, BOP, and other outside resources. Once a visitor clicks away, the outside site's privacy policy controls. Those offices and services may collect different data than this site collects.
Advertising partners may also use their own cookies or identifiers to measure ads or tailor ads across websites. That tracking happens through their systems, subject to their policies.
Who May Receive Data
Personal information is not sold as a mailing list or contact list. It may be shared in limited ways needed to operate the site or meet legal duties.
- Search partners that process submitted searches.
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance.
- Advertising networks that serve or measure ads.
- Law enforcement, courts, regulators, or government bodies when a valid legal order requires disclosure.
Security
Reasonable administrative and technical measures are used to protect information handled by the site. No internet-connected service can be promised to be fully secure, error-free, or breach-proof. Visitors should avoid sending sensitive personal information that is not needed for a basic site inquiry.
Users Under 18
This site is intended for adults. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor has submitted personal information, a parent or guardian may request deletion of that information.
